The Auerberg-Wertach Round

The Auerberg-Wertach Round is a 101,1 Kilometer road bike tour that leads from Füssen through the Ostallgäuer Voralpenland and inspires with magnificent landscape impressions. The road cyclists can look forward to two steep mountain challenges and picturesque lakes on the side of the road, which invite on warm days for a cooling. To some extent, the route follows the popular Ostallgäuer Emmentaler Cyclweg.

The road cycling area around Füssen offers the opportunity for numerous varied tours on low-traffic secondary roads and comfortable cycle paths. Sports challenges on the Alpine passes can also be mastered here by the road cyclists. Thanks to two crisp climbs at the Auerberg and the Wertachhalde, the 101,1 km long Auerberg-Wertach round rather to the challenging road bike rides that are possible here in the area. As a reward for the hardships, the road cyclists can look forward to wonderful landscape impressions and in good weather to a cooling in a picturesque pre-Alpine lake. In addition, on the Ostallgäuer Emmentaler Radweg there is the possibility to strengthen yourself in two scennereis with cheese specialities and other treats. Enough variety is guaranteed on this delightful tour. Your starting point and destination is the Tourist Information in Füssen. Parking nearby is available in the parking lot „P1 Festplatz and in the car park P5 ‘City/ Sparkasse’. If you are travelling by public transport, the Tourist Info can be reached from the Füssen railway and bus station in a few minutes' walk. The Auerberg-Wertach round should be completed between April and October.

The road cyclists board their bike in front of the Tourist Information and roll north to the west bank of the Forggensee. On the western Forggensee cycle path they travel along the largest lake of the Allgäu and enjoy wonderful views of the mountains and the nearby Königsschlosss Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Via Rosshaupten and Lechbruck it goes through pastureland initially further and further in a northern direction. In Bernbeuren the increase in the 1055 Metre high Auerberg, which is a popular excursion destination due to its viewing possibilities to the Alps. Do the riders have the 14%-ige Mastered incline, it is advisable to visit the St. George's Church standing on the crest, which contains some remarkable furnishings. From the viewing platform on the roof, a breathtaking view over the vast pre-Alpine country is possible.

The following descent from Auerberg towards Stötten is steep, so that the cyclists can roll their bike wonderfully. Shortly after Leuterschach, the racing cyclists cross the Wertach river to be on a slightly busier road to Oberthingau. After they have passed Görisried, it goes steeply downhill to Wertach and then again crisply uphill to the east bank. The 16%-ige Slope at the value heap requires proper condition. For this, the tour continues relatively comfortably from Rückholz. Here the racing cyclists ride a bit on the Ostallgäuer Emmentaler Cyclweg and can stop in two scennereis, which offer delicious breadtimes with homemade cheese specialties. The Auerberg-Wertach-Runde leads in the following past the Schwaltenweiher, whose meadows invite you to rest on the shore, up to Hopferau and the Riviera des Allgäus to the Hopfensee. Here on warm days wonderful bathing fun is possible before it goes back to Füssen.
