The 129 Kilometer-long Pfaffenwinkel round is a delightful road bike tour that delights with beautiful landscape impressions and leads past numerous sights, such as castles and churches. The cross-border road cycling area around Füssen enjoys great popularity thanks to its varied routes. Here you can make the bike on best bike paths and low-traffic secondary routes wonderfully roll through the pre-Alpine country, but also prove its condition on Alpine passes such as Oberjoch and Gaichtpass. One of the most attractive road bike tours is the 129 Kilometer long Pfaffenwinkel round, which runs past numerous sights through magnificent landscapes. Since it offers several longer climbs, the Pfaffenwinkel lap is considered demanding and is only recommended to experienced road cyclists. It runs as far as possible on quiet secondary roads; On the weekends and during holiday periods, however, an increased volume of traffic can be expected on the road. Start and finish point of the tour is the Tourist Information in Füssen, where the road cyclists can also get a detailed map of the route. For the Pfaffenwinkel round at least five and a half hours should be planned.

After the racing cyclists have swung on their bike at the Füssener Tourist Information, they first drive over the Lech Bridge to the foot of the royal castles in Hohenschwangau. The two famous castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau face each other here in the middle of a picturesque mountain landscape and are an annual attraction for well over one million tourists from all over the world. In the further course, the tour always continues in a northwesterly direction, via Buching, Halblech and Trauchgau, up to the so-called “Pfaffenwinkel”. At Steingaden, the cyclists come here to the pilgrimage church on the Wies – for short Wieskirche – which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a magnificently furnished rococo jewel. It is very worthwhile to take a short break to visit the house of God.

Afterwards, the tour continues over Wildsteig and the Echelsbach Bridge, which leads over the Ammer, deeper into the Upper Bavarian Pfaffenwinkel. Particularly beautiful are the route sections between Schönberg and Peißenberg as well as Wessobrunn and Schongau, where longer climbs alternate with fast descents through a beautiful landscape. All present on this road bike tour are great views of green meadows and valleys as well as the magnificent mountains. At Wessobrunn, the cyclists pass by the famous Wessobrunn monastery, whose history dates back to the 8.Jahrhundert It goes back and that especially inspires with its magnificent stucco equipment. Here, too, a break for a visit is worthwhile. As a result, the tour leads through picturesque landscapes, along small villages such as Hohenfurch, Tannenberg and Langegg, to Rosshaupten on the shores of Lake Forggen. The last part of the Pfaffenwinkel round runs along the shore of the largest Allgäu lake and inspires again with magnificent nature impressions as well as views of mountains and royal castles. If you do the tour in the summer, you have the opportunity to board one of the passenger ships sailing on the Forggensee several times a day in Rosshaupten and by car. The ship will return to Füssen. The shipping season on Lake Forggen runs from June to mid-October.
