The Southern Hopferwald Round

The “Südliche Hopferwald-Runde” is a leisurely bike ride for connoisseurs and families that leads through the magnificent pre-Alpine landscape around Füssen. At the approx. 17,7 km long tour waiting for the cyclists dreamlike views of the Allgäuer mountains, varied landscape impressions and several stopovers on the roadside.

At the foot of the mountains, there are numerous flat and moderately hilly routes around Füssen, which are suitable for leisurely bike rides through the Allgäu picture book landscape. A simple but extremely attractive tour is, for example, the “Südliche Hopferwald-Runde”, which leads along several lakes through the Allgäuer Königswinkel around Füssen. The starting and finishing point of the bike ride, for which about an hour and a half must be scheduled, is the Tourist Information in the village of Hopfen am See, which belongs to Füssen.

The Füssen district of Hopfen am See is also known as the “Riviera des Allgäus” due to its southern flair. Before the tour, it is advisable to walk here on the waterfront and enjoy the dream view over the water of the hop lake on the Allgäu mountains and the nearby royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. After the trippers have swung on their bike, they follow the bike path signage to the right at the Tourist Info. You leave hops and turn right on the first opportunity to cycle gently uphill through a picturesque landscape. After about four kilometers they take the forest road to the right, which leads them to the idyllic Faulensee. This dreamy water surrounded by dense forest radiates a special calm that allows for the best moments of relaxation. On the shore here stands the Faulenseehütte, which invites to a first stop with coffee and cakes, homemade soups or hearty cottage dishes. 

Forggensee in Füssen in the Allgäu

Freshly strengthened, it then continues on the forest road to Rieden on the Forggensee. The cyclists drive through the town, take the bike path on the right on the federal road and follow the signs to Osterreinen. From here they roll along the shore of the Forggensee, the largest Allgäu lake, up to Café Maria and on to Füssen. Forggensee is a reservoir that only reaches its full reservoir height from June to October. Then it is a popular destination of bathers, water sports enthusiasts as well as hikers and cyclists who are traveling along its shores. Until October, two passenger ships invite you here several times a day, which also transport bicycles and call at several stops on the shores.
