Lakes

Forggensee, which is 12 km long and 3 km wide, is bigger than all other lakes in the Allgau region and at 16 km² is the fourth largest lake in Bavaria. In the summer and autumn months it enriches our landscape and the city with it, and the Forggensee boat trip have brought a further point of attraction.

The Alatsee is an idyllic mountain lake situated about 6 km to the west of Fussen. At first sight the Alatsee appears to be a completely normal mountain lake. But there are many legends and mysteries around it. Sulphur bacteria, which occurs in only very few lakes in the world. There is a large variety of fish, crabs, shellfish and types of insect.

Relaxation and regeneration at the Obersee and Mittersee. The natural beauty of the landscape stretches out like a pearl necklace with Lechfall, the idyllic small lakes, species-rich flower meadows, impressive sloped forests and fascinating rock formations, creating an idyll of nature.

The nature reserve, which is largely free from traffic, begins directly on the Fussen border.

The Alpsee lies embedded in the wooded mountain countryside of Ostallgau. It is one of the cleanest but also the coldest lakes in Bavaria. Nestling in the nature reserve of “Alpsee, Schwansee and Faulenbacher Valley”, directly below the two royal castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. The south bank of the lake is perfect for bathing. The lake is sourced by underground springs and provides a great place to cool down on hot summer days.
