The Beer-Cheese Trail

The beer-cheese hiking trail, which is about three kilometres long, is a family-friendly themed trail that leads through a picture book landscape and teaches a lot of interesting information about the popular food beer and cheese. In the Sennerei Lehern and in the Mariahilfer brewing house, the hikers can work up close at the production of cheese and loaf. Beer and enjoy the treats, of course.

Hiking fun, enjoyment of nature, interesting information about beer and cheese as well as culinary delicacies – a hike on the Ostallgäuer beer-cheese path guarantees a lot of fun. The popular themed trail connects the Sennerei Lehern with the Mariahilfer Sudhaus and leads through a magnificent landscape with omnipresent views of the Allgäu mountains. Since the approximately three-kilometre route has no effort, it is also wonderful for families with children and seniors. The starting point of the tour is the public parking at the Auenhalle in Hopferau, just a few kilometres from Füssen.

At the parking lot, the trippers simply follow the walkway, which leads them after a few hundred meters to the Sennerei Lehern, which is surrounded by picturesque meadows in the pre-Alpine country. The Sennerei includes a small museum and a show shop where visitors learn everything important about cheese production. The hikers walk over green meadows, through a small shaded grove and over a bridge, then the magnificently equipped pilgrimage church Maria Hilf can be seen in Speiden. Opposite this is the Mariahilfer Sudhaus, a mixture of inn and small brewery. During a tour here, the trippers see how beer is brewed and learn what it all has to consider there are. The freshly brewed beers, such as the Mariahilfer Keller-Pils and the Mariahilfer Festbier, can then be tried in the guest room together with warm Allgäuer dishes such as Haxe with herb or liver cheese with potato salad.
