The approximately 8,6 kilometer hike from the Hohe Schloss to Weißensee

The approx. 8,6 Kilometer-long hike from the Hohe Schloss in Füssen to the picturesque Weißensee offers a lot of varied holiday impressions. From the romantic old town of Füssen, this family-friendly tour through a dream landscape goes to the legendary Alatsee and on to the Weißensee.

A bit of sightseeing in the beautiful Füssen old town, natural enjoyment from the finest and wonderful views of the vast pre-Alpine country - which approx. 8,6 Kilometer-long tour from the High Castle to the Weißensee makes every walking heart beat faster. The hike is a lot of fun in spring and autumn, when the Allgäuer landscape is particularly attractive, but is also a pleasure in summer, when the Alatsee and the Weißensee can be used for a small cooling. The starting point of the tour, which takes about three hours and is also suitable for families with older children and seniors, is the Tourist Information in Füssen.

You take a walk at the Tourist Information, cross the federal road and walk on the Reichenstraße through the pedestrian zone to the city fountain. The old town of Füssen inspires with its narrow, winding alleys, along which on every step worth seeing buildings such as Gothic houses, pretty chapels and ornate fountains can be discovered. Turn half-left at the city fountain and then go to Magnusplatz on the right in front of the town hall. Between the time-honored monastery of St. Mang and the late Gothic High Castle there is a gate through which you can reach the Baumgarten city park. Before that, it is worthwhile to look at the High Castle, which is filled with artistic Architecture and illusion paintings are decorated and belong to the best preserved medieval castles in Bavaria. In addition to remarkable interiors, such as the magnificent Rittersaal with its late Gothic carving ceiling, the Hohe Schloss also houses a branch gallery of the Bavarian State Painting Collections, which exhibits paintings by Bavarian artists and Allgäuer sculptures. From the Baumgarten, the tour continues straight on over a small bridge to the lower Kobelweg. They cross an idyllic forest and thus reach the Hahnenkopfweg.

On the Hahnenkopfweg you ignore the turn-off to the right to Weißensee and instead move to the left to the “Zwei-Seen-Blick” and Alatsee. The viewpoint offers you a fantastic view of the magnificent landscape around Alatsee and Weißensee. Shortly afterwards you will reach the Alatsee, which may be known to some as the scene of a popular Allgäu crime with Commissioner Bruchinger. Numerous regional myths and legends surround the pretty mountain lake, which have given it a very mysterious character. Resting benches invite you here on the shore to let the natural idylls work on you. Stay on the waterfront, along the charts native bird species Imagine closer, on the right and walk down the Saloberstraße until the junction to Weißensee, which represents the center of the rural Füssen district of the same name. Through a shaded forest you get directly to Weißensee, whose shore path you follow in a western direction to the outdoor pool. 

From the outdoor pool it continues on the federal road to Tourist Information Weißensee. Just a stone's throw away is a bus stop from which you can take the bus line 71 Come back to feet. Behind you is a varied hike with a lot of natural enjoyment and many beautiful impressions in the old town of Füssen.
