The Two Lakes View Round is an easy and varied hike that leads over small forest paths past two picturesque lakes, which are also very suitable for swimming in the warm season. The hiking tour has a length of about 9 Kilometers and starts in the rural Füssen district Weißensee.
The air resort Weißensee consists of 23 small hamlets surrounded by idyllic green fields. It is located on the north bank of the lake of the same name on the northern edge of the Alps. The approximately 2,3 Kilometer long Weißensee, which owes its shape to the ice ages and the Lech Glacier, is a popular destination all year round for nature lovers and recreation seekers who find romantic places on its shores to enjoy the dream landscape here with all their senses. Due to the natural idylls on the Weißensee and its rich fish stock, the water is also very popular with anglers. In summer the Weißensee is used both by locals and tourists as a bathing lake; the outdoor pool Weißensee on the west bank offers its visitors cozy lying meadows that invite to the sun and relax. Around the lake there is a circular path that leads to cozy Invites walks in the immediate vicinity of the shore and serves as a starting point for charming hikes to attractive destinations in the area. From Weißensee, for example, you can hike very well to the rustic mountain hut Salober-Alm or to the Falkenstein to Germany’s highest castle ruins. The starting point for the family-friendly and varied Two Lakes View Round is the outdoor pool Weißensee on the west bank. From here you walk in the direction of the children's playground, on which the little ones can of course let off steam to their heart's content, and follow the course of the circular path to the driveway on the east bank. All-present on this hike are the dreamlike views of the water and the picturesque landscape with the impressive mountain panorama in the background. In the reed area of the shore you can find rare water birds such as black fowl, hooded divers and various wild duck species that have their nests here. The southern part of the Weißensee circuit is Sometimes only a narrow path that runs directly along the water and leads through a natural rock gate. Behind the substation you have to prove some condition by climbing up the Burkenbichlberg in order to be able to enjoy at its western point the two lakes view that gives the name for this hike. Due to a rare purple sulphur bacteria layer in 15 Metre depth, the water appears slightly reddish in special lighting conditions, which has earned the water body the nickname “bleeding lake”. Below the bacterial layer there is no life in the water, but the Alatsee is oxygen-rich and inhabited by a varied flora and fauna. The locals tell stories that ghosts live on its shores on some nights and that a gold treasure from the time of the National Socialists lies on its foundation. The mysterious aura that surrounds the water has led to the fact that it has already served several times as the scene of well-known Allgäu crimes. The 490 metres wide and 290 Metre long Alatsee, which is surrounded by dense forest, is above all a really very beautiful mountain lake that will delight any nature lover. On its shores, there are natural swimming spots that invite you to enjoy a little cooling on hot summer days. If you want to expand the two lakes round, you can get around from the north shore of the Alatse 45 Minutes to the Salober-Alm. This rustic mountain hut is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. She spoils her guests with delicious Allgäuer cottage dishes and breadtimes. In the cold season, winter hikers like to come here, who then swim back into the valley after a comfortable stop on the adjacent natural toboggan run. The Two Lakes View Round leads from the Alatsee further to the driveway and from it via a forest path to Weißensee back to the outdoor pool. Here it is of course in appropriate weather to jump again into the cool water and refresh yourself after this hike. Very nice is also a trip with the pedal boat on the Weißensee. The viewable Two Lakes View Round has a length of 8,7 km It can be handled in about two and a half to three hours. The best time for this hiking tour is from April to November. Those who drive to Weißensee by car can park this directly at the outdoor pool.
