From Schwangau via the Mühlberger Älpele to the Buchenberg Alm

The approx. 26,4 Kilometer-long mountain bike tour from Schwangau via the Mühlberger Älpele to the Buchenberg Alm inspires with a varied route, great views of the vast pre-Alpine country and Allgäuer Hüttenflair. This beautiful tour is highly recommended to mountain bike friends on a holiday in Füssen.

Although the mountain bike area around Füssen is not necessarily a hotspot for fans of this delightful sport, but it is always a worthwhile insider tip. Varied forest trails and trails for all condition levels, magnificent panoramas and numerous mountain huts, which make a worthwhile destination, leave nothing to be desired for beginners as well as experts among mountain bikers. On warm summer days it is also great that there are remarkably many lakes with crystal clear water in the Allgäuer Königswinkel. The approx. 26,4 km long tour leads from Schwangau via the Mühlberger Älpele to the Buchenberg Alm. Some condition should be brought for this tour, which takes about three hours and is especially worthwhile on Fridays, when on the Buchenberg Alm biker evenings take place, where mountain bikers can sit together socially with like-minded people.

The tour starts at the Royal Crystal Therme in Schwangau and leads first in a northern direction through the whole village. The mountain bikers pass the school, the village fountain and the butcher's shop to cycle on the Alemannenweg towards Mühlberg. After about two kilometers they cross the road towards Brunnen, drive over a wooden bridge and then turn right. You cross a bridge again and bike towards the federal road to turn left on a forest road directly in front of it. Follow them until they cross the federal road and drive towards the revolving hut. After approximately 500 Meter branches off on the left a path that leads uphill to the Mühlberger Älpele, which is also signposted here.

The tour offers a varied route and offers great views of the vast pre-Alpine country with its green meadows, magnificent mountains and crystal clear lakes. The approx. 7 km-long driveway to Mühlberger Älpele tests the condition, but it is also a lot of fun. At some point the bikers reach the junction to Buching, but the Mühlberger Älpele is still around 160 meters further uphill. The unmanaged hut is suitable for a rest before it goes the short way back to the fork to Buching. The tour now continues straight ahead until the path marking to Buchenberg Alm turns the bikers right onto a forest path. After some time, the path flows back into a forest road that leads to the Buchinger cattle pastures and finally up to the Buchenberg Alm. The rustic hut is on 1140 Height meters and has cozy rooms and a beautiful sun terrace. Mountain bikers have the opportunity to enjoy delicious breadtimes or warm Allgäuer treats made from fresh regional ingredients. As I said, Friday is biker evening on the Alm.

Return on the main road to Buching. There, the bikers follow the federal road to the left, pass an inn and turn right to the Bannwaldsee cycle path. At Mühlberg they reach the bridges already known from the outward journey. On the same path as the approach, the mountain bikers finally reach Schwangau again to the starting point of this varied tour.
