The Buchenberg Summit

The Buchenberg Summit Round is an easy hike of approx. 3 km in length over the summit area of the 1142 Metre high Buchenbergs. The small round trip offers fantastic views over the vast pre-Alpine country and before and/or after Füssen holidaymakers can look forward to homemade Allgäuer Schmankerl in the rustic Buchenberg Alps.

In Buching, not far from Füssen, there is a great excursion mountain with the Buchenberg, which inspires recreation seekers, nature lovers and recreational athletes in every season. The one presented here is ca. 3 Kilometer-long Buchenberg summit is a leisurely tour for sun lovers and families, which offers wonderful views of the vast pre-Alpine country. The Buchenbergbahn takes you comfortably up to 1142 Metre altitude to Buchenberg-Alm, which serves as starting and finishing point. The journey to Buching takes place from Füssen on the B17 in the direction of Schwangau and from there on to Buching. The valley station of the Buchenbergbahn is located right at the entrance on the right. Sufficient parking is available here. Alternatively, you can arrive by bus line 73 from the Füssen railway and bus station to Buching.

Buchenberg in Buching

First of all, let yourself be comfortably brought up the mountain from the Buchenbergbahn. On the way, you can sit back and enjoy the magnificent view over the pre-Alpine country. At Buchenberg-Alm, follow the economic route in a southern direction before turning right at the end of the left turn. Through a varied mountain nature you hike on for a while until you reach a well-developed forest trail. Here you stand to the right and after about two hundred meters turn left. At the next intersection, turn left, follow the route to the right and then turn left again. Now the Forstweg leads you back to Buchenberg-Alm. The Hiking signage ensures that you can not get lost on the small round. A soothing high air and the omnipresent views of lush green meadows, pretty waters and the magnificent Allgäuer mountains make the tour, which hardly contains slopes, a pleasure for the senses.

After the hike, which lasts about an hour, culinary delights await you in the popular Buchenberg Alps. The quaint hut has three rustic rooms and a magnificent sun terrace, from which a fantastical „13-Seen-Blick“ about the Ostallgäu. Against this grandiose backdrop, the homemade food tastes twice as good. Buchenberg-Alm spoils its guests with delicious soups, cakes and desserts as well as hearty Allgäuer specialties such as Kässpatzen or Leberkäs with egg and fried potatoes. The selection on the menu is large, so that everyone will find something to their taste. Buchenberg-Alm has a beautiful playground where the children can have a lot of fun. The tame goats of the alpine pasture, which like to be petted, also contribute to bright children's eyes. Up here on the Buchenberg Alps in the face of the mountains it can really be endured. After the stop, we take the Buchenbergbahn back down into the valley.
