The Kobelsteig Round

The approximately nine kilometer long Kobelsteig round is an easy hike at Füssen in the Allgäu, which leads through the idyllic Faulenbach valley to the mysterious Alatsee. The tour, for which about two and a half hours are planned and which is also excellent for friends of Nordic walking, is a pleasure especially in the summer, as it leads along several picturesque lakes, which invite for a soothing cooling in between.

Hiking friends can choose from countless charming tours for every level of condition during their holiday in Füssen, which lead through the dreamlike Allgäuer landscape. A very nice and easy hike, which can also be handled relatively easily by seniors and families with children, is the approximately nine-kilometer-long Kobelsteig round. This runs through the Faulenbach valley, a scenic gem, which is considered a natural spa park in Füssen, to the mysterious Alatsee, which became known as the scene of a successful Allgäu crime crime. The starting and finishing point of the round trip is the car park at the end of the Alatseestraße, which is located directly opposite the Mini golf course is located. Take some provisions and, if necessary, Nordic walking sticks for this tour.

The hikers start at the parking lot and march in a southern direction through the Faulenbach valley, which offers the best conditions for a relaxing excursion with its natural idyll. In the so-called “valley of the senses”, green sloping forests, colorful flower meadows and several picturesque lakes, which line up like pearls on a string, provide for natural enjoyment at its finest. The lush greenery here provides soothing shade on warm summer days and the air in the largely car-free valley is clean and wonderfully fresh. The hiking friends pass the Mitter and Obersee along the way, whose natural baths invite you to bathing fun. There are also sunbeds, cafes and Children's playgrounds where the little ones can have fun. After about an hour, the hikers reach the mysterious Alatsee, which is located at the end of the Faulenbach valley, on the gently rising path.

The Alatsee is a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by dense forest, whose waters are present in a rare layer of purple sulfur bacteria in 15 Metre depth in special lighting conditions shimmers red. This is why the water is also called the “bleeding lake” and has a mystical character. Numerous regional legends revolve around the lake, which became known as the scene of a Bruchinger crime. The Alatsee is also well suited for bathing and around it leads a recently created bird trail that introduces the native bird world in a fun way. The hiking friends turn sharply right on the Alatseestraße at the Alatsee and walk on this approx. 150 Meter back towards Bad Faulenbach. Then turn left onto the Birkenbühlweg, which leads them to the Kobelweg. On the Kobelsteig we pass the mountain Kobel back to the starting point of this tour.

Beautiful nature impressions and views of the Allgäu also make the last part of the tour a pleasure. After the hike, especially for families with children, a visit to the miniature golf course in Bad Faulenbach is recommended, which promises a lot of fun. It also includes a small beer garden where you can enjoy refreshing drinks and small snacks. This is how an excursion into the Faulenbach valley ends, which guarantees absolutely successful holiday moments with varied impressions.
