The 8,5 km long summit hike on the 1680 Meter-high hit stone, which stands in the middle of a dreamlike landscape in a remote corner of the Ammergau Alps, is a moderate and promising mountain tour. It starts at Berggasthaus Bleckenau, the former royal hunting lodge of Ludwig II, and offers beautiful nature impressions and a great summit view.

The summit hike on the Schlagstein is ideal for all mountain hikers who are looking for a relatively short and not too strenuous tour, which still has a lot to offer. On this hike you get through a very beautiful section of the Ammergau Alps and can look forward to a magnificent summit view on the Schlagstein. The starting and finishing point of the tour is the Berggaststätte Bleckenau, which is located on 1167 Altitude meters in the middle of the nature reserve Ammergebirge. The Bleckenau was once built by King Maximilian II as a “Swiss house” for his wife Marie and later served as a hunting lodge for the fairy tale king Ludwig II, the creator of Neuschwanstein. Today it is a managed mountain hut, which is often used as a starting point for varied hikes to the Ammergebirge. To get to Bleckenau you first drive over Füssen on the B17 to Schwangau, where you follow the signs “Hohenschwangau / Königsschlosssser”. Chargeable parking spaces are sufficiently available here. Alternatively, you can also get from the Füssener Bahnhof with the bus lines 73 and 78 to Hohenschwangau. From the Tourist Information here brings one of the cottage bus several times a day during the hiking season to the mountain inn Bleckenau. For this summit hike on the hitstone you should wear ankle-enclosed hiking shoes with a good profile sole. If available, hiking sticks are also recommended, which provide additional safety. Overall, this mountain tour takes about three and a half hours. In principle, it is suitable for everyone with a bit of condition and safety.

Before the summit hike on the Schlagstein you have of course the opportunity to enjoy a hearty bread time in the rustic Bleckenau or a delicious Allgäuer Hüttengericht. However, it is advisable to save the cozy rest for later, especially since you can also strengthen yourself at the Jägerhütte with a small breadtime. First of all, you hike on a forest road along the Pöllat in the direction of “Fritz Putz Hütte”. The air here is pleasant and fresh, and there are always beautiful views of the magnificent mountain landscape. The route is well signposted, so there is no danger of getting lost. After about two kilometers shows You get the directions that you have to turn right. In front of a gorge you walk over a small bridge, then cross a slope over the gorge and finally reach the unmanaged Altenberghütte. Where the path from the Altenberghütte leads into the Pöllattal, you can make a detour to the Jägerhütte. This serves as accommodation for the alpine herder in summer, who offers simple bread times and fresh milk during the hiking season. In the middle of a magnificent Allgäu landscape, you have the opportunity to strengthen yourself before the hike continues. Over lightly forested alpine area it then goes to the Schlagsteinsattel at an altitude of about 1600 meters up. Now turn north and climb between mighty spruce and boulders to the summit cross. Here the hike requires a bit of safety and condition. For the small hardships, however, you will be rewarded with a magnificent summit view of the landscape and the surrounding mountains. Especially well you can see from here the western neighboring nursery, a 2084 Metre high mountain with a striking shape reminiscent of a pyramid.

On the descent, it first goes back to the Schlagsteinsattel, where you turn right and follow a climb that leads through the Bächwald until shortly before the Bächhütte. Here it goes further north to a moory stretch of landscape, which, however, can be easily crossed over wooden webs. Finally, you reach the forest road, on which it goes down into the Pöllat valley, from which it is no longer far to the starting point of the hike, the mountain inn Bleckenau. Now you can of course make yourself comfortable on the magnificent sun terrace, enjoy the view of the picturesque mountain world and treat yourself to a cool drink and a warm cottage meal. Even if children If they are involved in this hike, they now have the opportunity to let off steam again in the extensive terrain around the hut. Returning to Hohenschwangau then takes the hut bus again.
