The royal forest hike presented here promises pleasure hikers and families with older children an unforgettable holiday in one of the most beautiful areas of Germany. For the ca. 16,9 Km tour, which passes numerous sights such as three castles and magnificent viewpoints, should be scheduled for at least six hours. On the way, there are several stopping possibilities. The starting and finishing point is the Tourist Information in Füssen.

The first part of this charming tour takes the hiking friends through the romantic old town of Füssen, along whose narrow streets numerous interesting buildings such as historic churches and Gothic houses line up. The hikers cross the Sebastianstraße, walk through a small passage to the Schrannenplatz and go through the Brunnengasse to the Lechhalde. The Theresien Bridge leads them over the beautiful Lech with its turquoise green water and on the Tyrolean road they reach the Frau-am-Berg church, where the ascent to the Calvary begins. This Way of the Cross unites religion, art and culture and was once often celebrated by Ludwig II. The Peak is considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the area and offers a great view of the city of Füssen and the vast pre-Alpine country.

The descent takes place on the other side to the picturesque Schwansee, where it goes over the Fischersteig and the Fürstenstraße to the Museum of the Bavarian Kings on the shore of the Alpsee. Within luxurious premises, the modern museum offers much to know about the Bavarian kings and their castles. The hikers walk through Hohenschwangau to the plaster mill, where the entrance to the Pöllat gorge is located. Through it you will go to the viewpoint “Jugend” and the Marienbrücke, which invites you to a photo stop to take the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle from a unique perspective. On the toboggan run, the hiking friends finally reach Hohenschwangau.

The tour continues through the courtyard of Hohenschwangau Palace (a romantic residential palace where the royal family lived around Ludwig II for many parts of the year), the Berzenkopf and the scenic Alpine rose path back to Füssen. The hikers now pass the forest experience center Ziegelwies, one of the most popular family excursion destinations around Füssen. In addition to interesting adventure stations, the Baumkronenweg, on which you walk from tree crown to tree crown, is a real highlight in the forest experience center. On the Tyrolean road, the trippers continue to the König-Max-Steg at the Lechfall, which they cross. Huge masses of water Here plunge several meters into the depth and flow into the Lech gorge – a natural spectacle unparalleled.

The old smuggler paths Ländeweg and Schwärzerweg lead the hiking friends into the idyllic Bad Faulenbach to the so-called path of the senses, which offers various adventure stations such as a Kneipp facility, a balancing path or a sulfur water treadmill to enable wellness in harmony with nature. The hikers continue on the Ruchtisteig and the lower Kobelweg to the Morisse, where they keep to the right to get through the Baumgarten to the Hohe Schloss, which is considered a landmark of Füssen. Through the pedestrian zone, it finally returns to the starting point.
