The Ammergauer Hochplatte

The 2082 Metre-high Ammergauer Hochplatte, which is located about seven kilometres east of Füssen, is the highest elevation in the district of Ostallgäu. The mountain can be experienced in the round hike presented here, which requires a bit of safety and dizziness, but also inspires with a phenomenal view up to the Zugspitze.

The mountain tour to the 2082 Metre high plate in the Ammergau Alps is a very delightful hike that offers great landscape impressions and fantastic views. However, in some places it requires a bit of racketeering, so it should only be approached by experienced mountain hikers with certainty of footsteps and vertigo. The starting point and destination of the hike, for which a total of about five hours must be planned, is the Ammerwaldalm in Reutte / Tyrol. The excellently signposted tour starts at the Ammerwaldalm, where it first passes on the left to turn right onto a hiking trail. Following the course of a picturesque creek, the hikers cross a wooden bridge worth seeing and march up the mountain quite crisply. You are here within a great mountain landscape on the way and in between pass by gumps, which invite on warm summer days for some bathing fun. After about an hour, the hikers reach a turn, where they follow the small climb to the left in the direction of Roggentalsattel. With the steep north side of the plate in view, it goes up to the 1883 Meter-high ryetal saddle and further slightly to the right in the direction of “Window”, an impressive rock hole. The way „E4, Hochplatte" brings the hikers then to the summit of the Hochplatte. This route section offers fantastic views of the Forggensee and Starnberger See, but also some challenging passages. However, these are well secured by steel cables and can be easily mastered with tread safety. Once at the summit cross of the high plate, the hikers can then enjoy the view to kneel down as well as the wonderful air up here.

The descent takes place on the marked hiking trail, which runs in an easterly direction and becomes increasingly cozy after some slightly strenuous passages. The hikers march towards Weitalpjoch and follow the signs on the right in the direction of Roggental / Ammerwald. If you want to extend the tour, you can hike on the Weitalpjoch and return from there to the starting point. All the others subsequently return to the path known from the ascent, which leads them back to the Ammerwaldalm. There, of course, a well-deserved, cozy stop is possible. The family-run Alm spoils its guests daily from 10:00 up to 20:00 Clock with homemade cakes such as apricot cakes as well as Allgäuer and Tyrolean delicacies such as Kaiserschmarrn and bacon dumplings. Only on Mondays and Tuesdays the Ammerwaldalm remains closed.

Magnificent landscape impressions and the fantastic views that reach to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Zugspitze make the hike to the high plate a real highlight for all experienced mountain hikers. By the way, the well-secured climbing spots in between are not really difficult, they only require tread safety, because they are somewhat exposed.
