The Hegratsrieder See is located in a rare biotope mosaic between the Forggen and the Bannwaldsee near the municipality of Halblech. Due to the diversity in form and subsoil, this landscape could not be managed much in the past. The hill areas were used as unfertilized pastures and the valleys were mostly scattered meadows, whose pruning served as a substitute for straw in stables. Since the meadows were mowed only once a year, a partly very rare flora and fauna could be created here. Those who stay at the Hegratsrieder See can therefore look forward to a truly remarkable and unique natural landscape in the area around Füssen. Along the east bank of the lake runs the Forggensee Cycling Route, so that from Füssen a bike ride to the Hegratsrieder See is offered. But there is also the possibility to travel by car and park it directly on the lake.

At the Hegratsrieder lake, which has an area of approx. 10 Hectares and whose water has a very slight brownish color, offers a beautiful view of the magnificent peaks of the Füssen mountain world. The 12 kilometres long and 3 Kilometers wide Forggensee emerged in the 50er-Jahren of the last century and serves the hydroelectric power plants of the region as head storage. In addition, it is important for the flood regulation of the Lech after the onset of snowmelt.
