The Easter story retold: Old Jerusalem in the foyer meets modern storytelling in the theater hall

The story has fascinated since 2000 years. It is about friendship, hope, love, faith, farewell, death and resurrection – everlasting and always current topics. No wonder that it is one of the most popular worldwide and also Hollywood gratefully used in many variants of such a template. But it is not only a history that has shaped our entire cultural history like no other, it also harbors the roots of Christianity, the world’s largest religion with a long history. 2,26 Billions of followers.
Passion 20:20 This is not another passion play as we are used to. It tells the Easter story in a completely new form, plays with contrasts, combines the latest media technology with opulent sound and shows historical works of art, innovative, creative and exciting. ‘You know the story, but do you really know it? asks Manfred Schweigkofler, director and originator of the project provocatively. The multi-creative filmmaker, author, musician and actor thus realizes a completely new, immersive, emotional experience.‘. In an overarching genre mix of historical narrative, theater, video mapping, old and newly composed music, special effects and sound images, dance, aerial acrobatics, and projections, a completely new art form is created. A new form of storytelling that takes visitors from the first moment. A world premiere.
It begins with the entrance to Ludwigs Festspielhaus Füssen: in the foyer the old Jerusalem is built. Round 100 Extras show how life there before 2000 For years, ancient Jerusalem was walkable, experienceable, interactive.

Then the change to the Theatersaal. In precise detail Christoph Grigoletti measured the entire stage and the auditorium of Ludwig Festspielhaus Füssen. No sets are built, but created with the help of cross-space video images. The basis is, among other things, world-famous paintings of art history that have amazed people for centuries, detailed, as mosaics, deconstructed and rearranged as an overwhelming ambience in a great video mapping using high-tech large-capacity projectors, supported by enchanting light and laser effects.
On stage, the Easter story of 11 Actors and dancers faithful to the original and yet told differently. They show unusual perspectives and the Passion story from her very personal point of view: Mary Magdalene, Peter, Judas, the High Priest, Pilate.
A soundtrack like in the cinema. Opulent Hollywood film music meets street music from the Middle East. Each of the characters with their own story, their own melody and their own rhythm. The stories unfold - the 30 Denares ring the bell of Judah’s betrayal, scratching swords, rooster crows, and finally – in the Judean heat – the Seven Words on the Cross that change the world as the curtain breaks.
Ludwigs Festspielhaus Füssen offers the ideal setting for this. One of the largest stages in Europe and an evenly rising auditorium. In addition, the unique location in the middle of the idyllic Allgäu Alpine landscape. The round 350 m2 The large foyer offers space for the construction of the Old City of Jerusalem. At six stations are market stalls in narrow streets, the Crucifixion Mount Golgotha, the Wailing Wall, a Bedouin tent of encounter, a fire pit, the processional path Via Dolorosa and much more. The visitor will be 2.000 Years back and meets “real” inhabitants of Jerusalem and the historical figures of that time. The recorded exhibition is designed on the model of the Stuttgart Easter Garden installations by Andreas Munder, which have found a large audience in recent years.
