Hopferwald Round

The varied Hopferwald round is a very nice winter hike that leads from the “Riviera des Allgäus” hops on the lake through a fairytale snow landscape. On the way, the ca. 5,6 Kilometer long tour, which is suitable for all Allgäu holidaymakers with some condition, with great views of the magnificent mountain world.

The Hopferwald round offers a lot of variety and great holiday impressions within about two hours! From the bustling waterfront in the spa town of Hopfen am See it goes through quiet groves and over gentle hills that allow wonderful views of the mountain panorama. The approx. 5,6 Kilometer-long winter hike leads over largely cleared paths and holds some smaller climbs ready. You should therefore have some condition. Otherwise, only firm shoes and warm winter clothes are required for the tour. The starting and finishing point is the Strandbad Hopfen. From Füsse you drive on the B310 towards Weißensee and then follow the signs for hops.

At the beach resort, we first cross over to the beautiful waterfront, which owes hops on the lake its southern flair and thus the nickname “Riviera des Allgäus”. Here is a fantastic view over the lake frozen in winter with its glittering ice on the Allgäu mountains and the fairytale snowy Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles. Numerous cafes and restaurants along the promenade invite you to a leisurely stop, for which there is still time after the winter hike. First, the trippers walk on to the village end, where they turn in front of a small campsite in the Hopferwald. From here, the paths are now cleared only white. Through a quiet winter landscape it goes uphill towards Burgruine Hopfen. At an intersection, a steep path leads up to the oldest stone castle in the Allgäu, of which up to three meters high wall remains are still preserved. The castle ruins are a popular excursion destination mainly due to a magnificent view of the Tannheimer Berge and Ammergauer Alpen. The trip there is worthwhile. The Hopferwald round, however, continues at the turn left, past a large equipment shed.

The wanderers now march straight ahead to the next turn, where they hold on the left, to reach a clearing with small ponds a little later. Here it goes on to the right in the direction of Pestfriedhof and shortly afterwards there are wonderful views over snowy meadows on the Allgäu mountain world. Especially the striking peaks of the Säuling and Aggenstein dominate the picture here. As a result, the tour leads again into the Hopferwald, which has a lot of beautiful impressions. In the glittering snow, animal traces can be discovered and with a little luck you can see the inhabitants of the forest, such as deer and deer, also physically. The refreshing winter air contributes to the fact that this excursion is a pleasure for the senses. The hiking friends follow the signposts towards the specialist clinic Enzensberg to get back to hops. Via the Enzensbergstraße they come to the mountain road, which leads down to the shore of the hop lake. Now it is not far to the beach or the waterfront.

Dreamlike winter impressions and breathtaking views of the white Allgäu mountains make the Hopferwald round a real pleasure. This tour is a lot of fun and is just right for a successful winter trip: not too strenuous, but also not too short.
