Christmas markets in the region

A holiday in Füssen in the run-up to Christmas guarantees the perfect atmosphere for the party. Just a walk through the narrow streets of the romantic Füssen old town with its worth seeing historical buildings, snacky shops and cozy cafés, or a visit to the magnificent Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles puts you in a fairytale atmosphere that fits wonderfully at Christmas time. Then, it will be truly experienced. the special magic of these weeks but only at one of the Christmas markets here in and around Füssen, which have a lot to offer for young and old.

From 02. up to 04. and from 09. up to 11. In December, the courtyard of the Benedectin monastery of St. Mang turns into a fascinating sea of lights. At the Füssen Christmas Market, visitors are waiting for a lot of festively decorated stalls, where you can buy craftsmanship, Christmas decorations, handmade soaps, culinary treats and much more. Meanwhile, the appropriate musical supporting programme is provided by music bands and dance groups on the Klosterhofbühne. While visitors stroll through the market, they can enjoy the diverse sensory impressions at every turn. Of course, the physical well-being is also best ensured: Both sweets such as cookies, fried apples and waffles as well as Hearty foods such as cheese raquettes please the palate. If the weather also plays along and snowflakes trickle from the sky, the Christmas magic is perfect.

It is also worth a visit to 11. Culinary Nikolausmarkt in Schwangau, which at 04.12. from 14:00 up to 20:00 In the middle village the gates open. Here, visitors to the lovingly decorated stands expect culinary specialties such as smoked fish and ox roast or sweets from the Christmas bakery. A youth band plays Christmas songs and for the children there is a colorful supporting program. In the evening, Nicholas drives in a horse-drawn carriage and distributes gifts to the little ones. The proximity to the fairytale royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau gives the Schwangauer Nikolausmarkt a particularly atmospheric flair.

On Sunday, the 11.12. off 13:00 Clock starts on the Leonhardsplatz in Pfronten-Heitlern one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Bavaria. “Alpine authenticity without kitsch and commerce” is the motto here. Visitors can look forward to special features such as a nativity exhibition in the Heitlern chapel and a varied entertainment program with shepherd play and light dance. At the stands there is to acquire regional craftsmanship. Palate delights guarantee culinary treats such as Kaiserschmarrn, hot chestnuts and apple strudel. Here, too, Nicholas looks past in the evening and distributes gifts to the children.

The large Allgäu Christmas markets, for example in Kempten and Kaufbeuren, are open daily in the run-up to Christmas. A stroll over the Christmas market is therefore definitely possible on a foot holiday in December. The joy of the party is guaranteed!
