The Holy Spirit Hospital Church in Füssen

On the edge of the old town of Füssen in the Allgäu stands a historic church building, which is already from a distance highly impressive due to its artistically painted rococo facade - the Holy Spirit Hospital Church.

The Holy Spirit Hospital Church is located directly on the Lech Bridge, on the corner of Lechhalde/Spitalgasse. It was created between 1748 and 1749 by the architect Franz Karl Fischer. Previously, there was a Gothic house of worship, which, however, 1733 burnt down. The main attraction of the Holy Spirit Hospital Church is the colorfully frescoed rococo facade, on which, among other things, the Holy Trinity and pictures of St. Florian and Christopher can be seen. Also from the inside the church is decorated artistically. Magnificent frescoes and altar paintings delight the eyes of culturally and historically interested people. Thematically, the works of art always refer to the Holy Spirit, the namesake and patron of the church. Saint John Nepomuks is also depicted in the church. He is the patron saint of the rafters and rafting was once an important and economically successful craft in Füssen.

The church can be free daily from about 8.30 Clock to clock 18.00 The clock is visited. In order to be able to visit all the artistic attractions in the church extensively, you should take at least half an hour.
