Allgäu - A beautiful natural landscape in the Alps

Beautiful natural landscapes and the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle, are the distinguishing things that make the Allgäu make it one of the most famous tourist attractions in Germany. It is one of the most popular hiking regions of the European Alps with scarcely 7.000 km of endless hiking trails.

The topography offers many different landscapes. The exquisite alpine meadows, the soft hills, the steep slopes, the green forests, attractive valleys and the enticing lakes.

The various paths of this enchanting Alpine region lead to the castles, churches and monasteries, such as the royal castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein and the Basilica Ottobeuren. The famous Neuschwanstein Castle is located in the east of the region.

The Allgäu region is located in the south of Germany and extends over the Bavarian Swabia and the southeastern part of Baden-Württemberg. The rivers that flow through this German part are the Lech and the Iller. Especially the Iller is a popular trekking and rafting place.

A bicycle path follows the river. The Lech, on the other hand, flows through Germany and Austria. It originates from the Vorarlberg state of Austria and crosses the German border by a 12 Metre-high waterfall, the so-called Lechfall. Another popular trekking and hiking place.
